As many of you will know, as well as being a hugely successful record producer, Pete
is also a dedicated railway and railway modelling enthusiast. Fuelled by his first job
at Leamington Railway Station, Pete has a passion and enthusiasm for the railways,
owning significant collections of both historic and commercial railway locomotives.
His new book 'Just Like the Real Thing' tells the story of how he and a team of dedicated
modellers have built one of the most impressive model layouts in the country. At an incredible
90 feet in length, he covers all aspects of building his layout of Leamington Spa station and
gives tips on how to create all aspects of model railways to the very highest standard -
a subject very close to his heart.
Having worked with some of the finest modellers in the business, Pete's models and layouts are
renowned for their high quality, accuracy and attention to detail and in this, his latest book he
takes the reader through the whole modelling process step by step. Following the success of A Train
is for Life, Pete's latest book gives tips on a wide range of modelling topics, from locomotives and
rolling stock to track, signalling, scenery and buildings, from painting to model construction.
Fully illustrated with colour photographs throughout, Just Like the Real Thing is a rare glimpse into
Pete Waterman's world of railway modelling, brimming with practical tips and hints from the master
craftsman, including the now renowned singing of teddy bear fur to create grassed embankments and cuttings.
Pete To Appear At Severn Valley Railway Event
Pete will be meeting visitors at Severn Valley Railway’s steam gala and he will also be signing copies of
his new book on September 26.
Waterman was briefly a steam locomotive fireman at Stafford Road engine shed in Wolverhampton during his teenage years in the
1960s and now owns several full-size steam locomotives.
Pete will spend an hour signing copies of his book at Bridgnorth, before climbing up onto the footplate of the locomotive working the 12.45pm train to Kidderminster, where he will spend another hour signing books before returning to Bridgnorth on the 4.20pm train.
More than 7,000 steam buffs are expected to descend on the gala, which will run for three days from September 25-27.
The Severn Valley Railway’s LMS Ivatt Flying Pig No.43106 will be making its first public appearance on the line in 22 years following a major rebuild.

Pete
Waterman had promised himself to build a model railway for over thirty years,
but time was never on his side. Whilst taking a break from ‘Pop Idol’ he filmed
a series for Channel 4 ‘Pete Waterman on Trains’. The last show was filmed
on Leamington Spa Station, which was where Pete had started his spotting days
in 1953.
It was during a running session at a club in North Wales, with his mates from
Manchester, that the idea was born. Leamington is a scale model of that station
in the 50’s. The aim was to push the skills of the modellers to the max -
and the results are very impressive!

Just Like The Real Thing is Pete Waterman's model railway company. JLTRT
prides itself in being the UK's leading manufacture of 7mm rail items and
over the last 10 years JLTRT has pushed back the frontiers of modelling in
the UK.
"We believe it’s our job to make a kit that you will know will be right when
you open the box. Our factory in Scotland has the latest technology so we
can give you models that are as close to the real thing as they can be. We
use cutting edge technology to make it easy for you to build. Our wagons,
coaches and loco's are made to snap together and parts are kept to the minimum
so that they can be glued together. Soldering is mainly only used for the
pick up. Our etch brass loco kits have been brand leaders for over 20 years
and are used on all of the best layouts. We are always updating our kits with
new ideas and most of our steam locos now have a one piece plastic firebox,
boiler and smokebox. We also produce Super Detailing kits to enhance your
model even futher. Replace etched parts with superb lost wax brass castings
and milled parts, this bring you even closer to the ultimate Engine. We cover
the railways of Britain from the 1930s up to the present, due to our unique
position of being maintainers for Network Rail; for steam, diesel and electric
traction; we have access to all of the works drawings as well as to people
with years of experience and practice working on the prototypes. We run our
own layout so we know what the modeller wants. We are not interested in what
other manufacturers are doing as we believe they are not making models that
we would buy. AT JLTRT WE DO NOT USE OTHER PEOPLES PARTS AND RE-CAST THEM,
WE DO NOT MAKE PARTS BY HAND, OR THICKEN UP KITS. We use CNC millers to cut
out parts as well as SLR machining. All our windows are Laser cut by us. We
have our own state of the art casting machines for Plastic, Brass, Nickel
and Pewter. We offer all of these facilities to anyone."

Although more used
to releasing hit records, on September 4th 2008 Pete Waterman released his
second book! Entitled 'A Train Is For Life' the book explores Pete's undying
passion for trains!
This stunning book celebrates Pete Waterman's lifelong love affair with the
railways, and railway modelling in particular. Although well known as the
successful record producer and pop impresario, Pete is now also widely recognised
as being a major figure in the world of locomotives. Pete's interest started
young as a train spotter on Leamington Spa station and later working on the
railways as a fireman. His huge and enduring success in the music business
has enabled him to pursue his hobby on a grand scale, buying a number of model
making companies which have taken the art of locomotive modelling to new heights.
Pete's publishers, Ian Allan Publishing, arranged for him to take part in
a number of successful book signing sessions up and down the country to promote
the book's launch and his publishers also set up an official 'MySpace' page
for him to help fans keep track of his movements during this time.
